Winterset, IowaLEROY ROGERS OF MACKSBURG DIES
Life-Long Resident of This County Succumbs at 76 Years
Roy Rogers, life-long resident of Madison county and member of a pioneer family here, died Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. He was 76 years of age.
Michael Leroy Rogers was a son of Elihu and Martha Rogers, and was born at Winterset April 25, 1874. He spent his active life in the Macksburg community where he was living when taken to the Des Moines hospital about two weeks ago.
He was married March 1, 1896 to Marche Coakley. They were the parents of seven children, one daughter dying at the age of three years. The wife and mother died in 1933.
His second marriage occurred Aug. 5, 1936, to Mary E. Burgan, who survives him.
In addition to his wife, he leaves six children, Mrs. Marie Crawford of Dexter, Mrs. Wilma Nauman of Venice, Calif., Mrs. Blanche Abrahams and Mrs. Betty Braman of Winterset, Mrs. Lela Adams of Creston, and Leroy Rogers of Lorimor. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, a brother, Ross Rogers, and two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Meyers of Winterset and Mrs. Ruth Christensen of California.
Funeral services were held from the Macksburg Methodist church last Thursday, conducted by the Rev. James Wilkins. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
