ROBERT BRUNS, CALIFORNIA

Robert Marion Bruns, 83, died Jan. 15, 2007 at the Santee, Calif. home of his sister.

Santee Mortuary and Cremation Service will manage the cremation, with ashes to be scattered at sea on Feb. 19, his 84th birthday.

Robert Bruns was born Feb. 19, 1923 to Joseph Eugene and Jennie Marie (Hill/Allgeyer) Bruns and was a 1942 graduate of Winterset High School. Robert, a Master Sergeant of the 8th Engineer Battalion, served in the United States Navy and United States Army for 31 years. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and completed three tours of duty during the Vietnam War. Among his many citations were the Bronze Star Medal and the First Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces. For many years, Robert resided in Karlsruhe, Germany.

He was preceded in death by one son, Randolf Bruns; a sister, Elizabeth Campbell; and three brothers, Paul Bruns, Joseph Bruns and John Bruns.

He is survived by four sons, Steven (Craig), Brian, Dennis and Robert Bruns; one stepson; four sisters, Mary Williams of California City, Calif., Nora Mae Page of Santee, Calif., Genevieve Melroy of Winterset and Dorothy Kennedy of Lake City, Minn.; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
