Death of Mrs. R. Bailey

Mrs. Russell Bailey passed away Wednesday morning, following several weeks illness. The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Tidrick funeral home at 2 o'clock, conducted by Reverend W. C. Porter. Burial will be at Union Chapel.

Mrs. Bailey was born and raised in Scott township. She was born April 24th, 1866, the daughter of John and Mary Dryden, pioneer residents of Madison county. February 18, 1892 she was married to Thomas Russell Bailey, who with three children, Guy, Clarence and Willis survive her. She also leaves one sister, Mary Elizabeth Hicks of Orchard, Nebraska and a half sister, Myrtle Wygle of Ravenwood, Missouri. Mrs. Hicks and Mrs. Wygle are expected here for the funeral services.

Kate Ann Dryden, the daughter of John and Mary Dryden was born on Hoosier Prairie, Scott township, Madison county, on April 24, 1855. She died at the home on West Hutchings Street the morning of Wednesday, March 23, 1932, aged nearly 66 years.

She spent most of her life in and around Winterset. On February 18, 1892 she was married to Thomas Russell Bailey and they spent forty years together. Six children were born to them. Three of these died in childhood: Mabel Grace, Virgil Edison, and Mary Rosella. Three sons have grown to manhood and are citizens of Winterset: Guy, Clarence and Willis. A sister, Mrs. Mary Hicks, of Orchard, Nebraska, outlives her and was present at the burial. There is also a half-sister of Ravenwood, Missouri, Mrs. Myrtle Wygle. A brother, William Dryden died just three months before Mrs. Bailey.

When a young woman Mrs. Bailey united with the Christian church of Winterset. She kept her membership active until infirmities and an injury made difficult her going about.

She was a good neighbor and a loving industrious wife. She was one who was an uplift to her community. Kindness was the law of her life toward the needy. Her family and her many friends will miss her sadly.

The funeral was held at the Tidrick funeral home on last Friday, March 25th at 2 p.m. in charge of W. C. Porter. The burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery in Scott township.
