Mortuary - Charlie Crawford

Charlie Crawford was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, on April 25th, 1866. He died suddenly from cerebral hemorrhage on March 12, 1932, aged 66 years. He was the son of Joseph and Rebecca Crawford who came to Madison county, Iowa in 1869 when Charlie was a child of three. The parents made their home in Jackson township where Charlie grew up and spent all his active life as a farmer.

He married Miss Sadie E. Reed on September 21, 1893. To them were born three sons: George William, Cassius A. and Earl Edgar all of whom reside in Jackson township. The wife and mother died on March 10, 1922.

On January 12, 1924, he was married to Miss Olive M. Garrison. In that same year he moved to Winterset and made their home on East Court avenue. There their genial hospitality made a circle of friends which included every neighbor.

Besides his widow, the three sons and their families, Mr. Crawford leaves behind two sisters and three brothers; Mrs. John Estle, Miss Addie Crawford, Ellis, Soloman P., and J. S. Crawford all of whom reside in Jackson township.

Charlie Crawford was an upright, industrious, cheery hearted man. He was a good husband and father, an accommodating neighbor and a steadfast friend. All the time his companionship was delightful. No day was long enough to exhaust his good nature and clean pleasantries. Friends and neighbors will greatly miss him.

God gave him a satisfying measure of prosperity and he was grateful. To acknowledge the goodness of God he faithfully contributed to the church and took pleasure in the duty honestly trying to fulfill it. His faith in God carried him through many severe trials nurtured by the hope of a better world. His last word was pleasantry with the doctor as he was sinking under the fatal stroke. We expect his greeting of us in heaven to be just such another glad word.
