PAULA FIFE DIES AFTER FIVE WEEKS

Little Girl Loses Battle to Recover From Burns

(St. Charles--Special)

A five weeks struggle for life, despite the second and third degree burns that seared her body, failed for little Paula Fife of St. Charles last Thursday.

Sentence not readable--badly burned June 4 at the farm home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Fife of St. Charles. A sleeve of her dress became ignited as she reached across the flame of a gas stove, and the flames enveloped her despite the efforts of an older sister.

She was taken to the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, and for five weeks she clung to the thread of life, despite intense suffering.

Paula was born Aug. 9, 1940, in Jackson township, and moved with her parents to Truro in 1944. She attended Sunday school at the Congregational Christian church and the Elm Grove Methodist church.

She is survived by her parents; two sisters, Peggy and Penney, three brothers, Allen, Elton, Jr., and Mark; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fife of Walnut township and Mrs. Grace Allen of Des Moines; and two great grandmothers, Mrs. Sarah Marston of Winterset and Mrs. Martha Nicholson of Sterling, Colo.

Funeral services were held from the Truro Christian church Sunday in charge of the Rev. Frederick Cooper of Des Moines, assisted by the Rev. Verne Willey of Truro. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
