Death Strikes Suddenly For Well Known Winterset Woman
Mrs. H. G. Breakenridge, one of the most widely known young women of the community, died at her home in Winterset Saturday, January 20th. Death came suddenly as she was not known to be seriously ill. She was 34 years old. She had been ill for about a month but was thought to be better and had been downtown on Friday. A throat infection developed Saturday causing her death about midnight.
Mardicie Elizabeth Howell was born near Patterson, February 6th, 1899 the daughter of Charles E. and Sadie Howell. Her early days were spent in the Stringtown neighborhood in Douglas township.
After graduating from Iowa State college at Ames in 1919, she was married to Harold Glidden Breakenridge in 1920. Except for one year in Ames, the couple has since resided in Winterset. Mrs. Breakenridge was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and the Order of Eastern Star. She was prominent in church and social activities.
In addition to her husband, the deceased leaves a daughter, Marilyn Ann, 7 years old, her mother, Mrs. Sadie Howell, two sisters, Mrs. Hugh Bellman and Mrs. Lloyd Hoeness and four brothers, Orville, Garland, Clarence and Aaron Howell.
The funeral service was held in the First Methodist Church in Winterset on Tuesday, the Rev. L. H. Lanning having charge of the service. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
