Winterset Butcher Shoots Self Early Saturday Morning
Guy L. Gill, Winterset merchant, took his life at his home, early Saturday morning, January 20th. He was 61 years of age. It is stated that he went down stairs and shot himself while his wife and children were upstairs.
Mr. Gill, who was 61 years of age was born in Fayette county. He was a son of Thomas and Elma Childs Gill. He spent his boyhood in Fayette county and on July 17, 1916 he was married to Miss Florence Joy of Anita, in Chicago. They started housekeeping at Collins, Iowa and ten years ago came to Winterset, where they have since resided. Mr. Gill formerly worked in different markets, but for the past year has conducted his own grocery and meat market on the east side of the square.
He leaves his wife and their three daughters, Doris, Dorothy and Delpha Gill. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Elma Gill and a brother E. H. Gill of Humeston and a sister, Mrs. Susie Jay of Akron, Colorado.
The Rev. H. L. Olmstead conducted his funeral services at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home on Sunday afternoon, January 21st at 2:30 o'clock and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
