DEATH OF BRUCE MILES

Bruce Miles, well-known resident of Winterset, died at the University hospital in Iowa City, Saturday night at the age of 43 years, after an extended illness. He had been in poor health for several years and was taken to the University hospital about ten days ago for treatment. His condition grew worse and he died there Saturday night. The body was brought back to Winterset and the Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ conducted his funeral services at the church, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Bruce Okey Miles was a son of Dan T. Miles, deceased and Mrs. Jessie Bird Miles. He was born on a farm near Patterson October 22, 1890, and spent his boyhood there. Later the family moved to Winterset, where he has since resided. He attended the Winterset schools and on February 17, 1919, he was married to Ethel Kipp Lyon. They were the parents of one daughter, Patricia. He leaves his wife and daughter, a step-son, Charles Lyon, his mother, Mrs. Jessie Miles of Winterset; two brothers and three sisters: Bird Miles of Chicago, Blaine of Winterset, Mrs. Edwin Emery of Chicago, Mrs. S. O. McClurg of Des Moines and Mrs. A. N. Smith of Winterset.

Mr. Miles had many friends in Winterset and in this county. He was formerly engaged in stock buying with his father and later by himself. For the past eight years he has owned the recreation parlor on the North Side of the square. He conducted this as long as his health would permit. Rhuematism developed and he has been an invalid for the past few months. His condition grew worse and he was taken to Iowa City for treatment. Blood poisoning developed causing his death.
