Thomas W. Konkle, son of Phillip W. and Mary J. Konkle was born November 15, 1857 at Camanche, Iowa and passed away at Winterset, Iowa, December 11, 1933, aged 76 years and 26 days.

His early education was acquired at Camanche and later he attended the schools at Davenport, Iowa. After the death of his father in the Civil war,, it became necessary for Thomas Konkle to help in the support of his mother and the younger children. Mr. Konkle learned the carpenter trade and followed it for a number of years. Afterwards he operated a drug store at Defiance, Iowa.

The family moved to Winterset, in 1918, where he engaged in the hardware business on the north side of the square, but has been out of business for the past two years.

In 1881 Thomas Konkle was united in marriage with Miss Amy Lowe of Anamosa. To this union was born one child, who is now Mrs. Lula Miller of Cedar Rapids. Some years after the death of his first wife he was again married to Miss Emma Junker of Toledo, Iowa. To this union were born three children, Phillip Junker, Thomas Frederick and Frances May. He is survived by his widow, the four children and three grandchildren.

Mr. Konkle has always had an active life until in recent years. Heart trouble caused his gradual failing health. He was able to be around and chore about the place and do some repair work for others until the very last. He was so engaged when death came to him on last Monday morning. His death came as a sudden shock to the family and they have the sympathy of a large circle of friends.

The funeral was held at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home on Thursday morning, December 14th at 10:30. Rev. L. H. Lanning, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church having charge of the service. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.
