Long-Time Business Man Here Died Last Wednesday at 87 Years
J.M.E. Creger, a widely known Winterset business man for many years, died here last Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the age of 87 years. He had been in declining health for several months, and became critically ill the first of last week; he was taken to the Peterson dursing home where he died three days later.
Mr. Creger had retired in July 1943, after 27 years engaged in the produce business in Winterset. Prior to that he had operated a restaurant here for 12 years. His entire life had been spent in Madison county, with the exception of two years in Pocahontas county.
Born in Truro on Jan. 13, 1863, he was a son of James and Catherine Creger. He was married March 28, 1889, to Florence Belle Boling. They were the parents of two sons, Gaile, who died in 1943, and Fonda W. Creger of Winterset.
He is survived by his wife; the son, Fonda Creger of Winterset; four grandchildren, Gene of Torrence, Calif., James of Logan, Mrs. Lee Meyer, Jr., of Adel, John of Winterset, and one great granddaughter, Cindy Lee Creger of Torrence.
Funeral services were held Friday from the Anderson home for funeral in charge of the Rev. Clement Loehr, pastor of the Winterset Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
