Death of John Shelby Abbott

John Shelby Abbott, one of the oldest residents of Madison county died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Ora Macumber, Sunday evening, April 2 after a brief illness. Mr. Abbott who was 89 years of age, had been in his chair, all day, and early in the evening complained of not feeling well. Soon afterwards he died. Had he lived until April 14th, he would have been 90 years of age.

The deceased was a son of George and Malinda Pindell Abbott and was born in Brown county, Ohio, April 14, 1843. His early life was spent in Ohio and Illinois, and he came to Iowa in 1873. He was married to Fannie Pindell, January 28, 1876, and they immediately established their home in Webster township, Madison county, where they lived for twenty years. In 1896 they moved to Macksburg, and made this town their home, until Mrs. Abbott died in May 1930.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Emily Abbott Prine of Macksburg, and uncle Cass Pindell of Macksburg and the following nieces and nephews, Mrs. George Smith, Panora, Mrs. Ora Macumber, Winterset, Mrs. Bertha Walburn, Watt, Oklahoma, and Paul and John Abbott Dawson of North Dakota.

The funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church in Macksburg Tuesday April 4th at 2 o'clock, by the Rev. Mrs. Wolfe of Lorimor, pastor of the church. Interment was made in the Macksburg cemetery.
