Elizabeth Kezia, daughter of William and Elizabeth Young was born in Lawrence county, Pennsylvania, August 17, 1848. She died Saturday, April 22, 1933 at her home in St. Charles. She came with her parents to Madison county in May 1856.
She was brought up in the United Presbyterian faith but was reunited with the Methodist church in girlhood, under the pastorate of Rev. Hestwood. She was the oldest member of the St. Charles church.
She was married to James K. McCloskey August 4, 1870. She was the mother of six children; her husband and one daughter preceded her.
The deceased leaves five grandchildren, five great grandchildren. She was a devoted mother; no higher eulogy can be pronounced on a woman. She leaves four daughters and one son, Mrs. A. B. McCleary of Van Meter, Mrs. C. C. McCleary of St. Charles, Mrs. Luther Fox of Winterset, Mrs. Emma Bradshaw of St. Charles and Kenneth McCloskey of Des Moines.
Funeral services were Monday April 24th at the Methodist church in St. Charles. The Rev. A. E. Nixon, pastor conducted them and was assisted by Rev. G. E. Carnahan of St. Charles and Rev. W. C. Porter of Winterset. Burial was in the St. Charles Cemetery.
