RITES SATURDAY FOR MRS. FRITSON

Local Woman Was Born in Denmark in 1858; Had Lived Here 39 Years

Elsie Chriss Fritson was born in Denmark, Jan. 4, 1858. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Chriss and with her parents she came to America in 1871, settling near Kellogg, Iowa, where she lived until the time of her marriage to John Fritson on May 15, 1875. The new home was established at Newton, Iowa. To this union were born seven children; two boys and five girls; Mrs. K. Madsen of Chehali, Washington; Mrs. J. R. Smith of Des Moines, Iowa; James of Chicago; Mrs. E. G. Carroll of Olatha, Kansas; Mrs. O. G. Andrew of Earlham; Mrs. E. T. Coard of Ft. Worth, Texas and Fred, proceeded his mother in death September 1904.

In early childhood Mrs. Fritson was baptized into the Lutheran Church and has ever remained a loyal supporter of that faith, living her Christianity and following the steps of her master.

In 1894 the Fritsons moved to Earlham where they have since resided. The home and family were her greatest joy. In them her interest centered. She was a kind, loving mother and an ever faithful wife. It was to her that the husband and children went for solace and comfort. When mother was wanted she was always found in the home. The brave and courageous spirit smoothed many a rough pathway for her loved ones.

While the home was her greatest interest her gentleness and unselfishness extended beyond the home circle. All who knew Mrs. Fritson loved her dearly. She was always forgetful of self, her consideration being ever for others. Even in her weakness during her last illness, she inquired concerning those whom she knew were sick and suffering. A share of her gentle heart's love was also extended to her plants in which she found much pleasure.

On April 4th her spirit heard the summons to the home beyond and departed to be with her God.

She is survived by her husband, six children, eight grand-grandchildren, one great grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Hans Peterson of Earlham, one brother Chris Peterson of Lincoln, Nebr., two half sisters, Mrs. Mary Pickens and Mrs. Hans Rasmussen, both of Newton, Iowa and one half brother Wm. Chriss of Grinnell, Iowa.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the Earlham Friends Church and burial was in the Earlham Cemetery.
