Mrs. James Flack Dies From Burns

Mrs. James Flack, whose home is southeast of St. Charles, was fatally injured last Thursday noon, when her clothing caught on fire while fixing the fire in the stove. Tidrick’s ambulance from Winterset was called and she was rushed to a hospital in Des Moines.

Mrs. Flack noticed her clothing on fire, she screamed, and her son, who made his home with her and who was doing the washing, rushed to her and threw wet blankets around her until he could get her clothing cut off. Her face and body were badly burned, and she passed away at the hospital, Saturday at 7 o’clock. She was 72 years old. Her husband died in 1923.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, at the Christian church in St. Charles, the Rev. H. L. Olmstead, of Winterset, officiating. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

MORTUARY

Mrs. Edna J. Flack

Edna J. Smith, daughter of Callaway and Mary Smith, was born near Ottumwa, Iowa, on February 28, 1853, and passed away at the Iowa Lutheran hospital, June 28, 1930, at the age of 77 years and 4 months. She came to Warren county at the age of 7 or 8 years, and has made that county her home since then.

She was united in marriage to James Flack on October 8, 1876. To this union were born three sons, William M., Cornelius M. and Wesley A. Seven years ago the husband passed to the great beyond to join the two sons, William and Wesley, who preceded him by a number of years.

About thirty years ago she united with the Christian church at St. Charles, and always tried to do her part until poor health and failing eyesight prevented her continued attendance at divine services. During her last years, she was cared for at home by her son, Cornelius, (Neal, as he was familiarly known). She leaves to mourn her death her son, two sisters, a brother and a number of nieces and nephews.
