MRS. LESLIE PRESTON DIES

Mrs. Leslie Preston well known resident of Madison township, died Sunday afternoon, October first, at her home near Earlham. She was 45 years of age and had only been critically ill for a short time. She had been in poor health for some time, but her condition was not thought to be serious.

Mrs. Preston was the former Lucia Ann Walker, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benson Walker. She was born at Mazon, Illinois, February 29, 1888. Her marriage to Leslie Preston took place, January 1, 1910. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, her father, two brothers, Maurice and Russell Walker, both of Mazon, Illinois, and one sister, Mrs.Louise Moreland of Earlham.

The Rev. A. R. Weed, pastor of the West Star and Worthington churches conducted her funeral services at the Worthington church, Tuesday, October 3 at 2 o'clock and burial was in the Penn Center cemetery.

Mrs. Leslie Preston Ends Life Journey

Nervous Breakdown Causes Death of Beloved Farm Wife and Mother. Funeral Services Were Held Tuesday Afternoon at Worthington; Burial at Penn Center Cemetery.

Mrs. Leslie Preston, 45, well known farm woman, died Sunday afternoon at her home southeast of Earlham. She had been ill since the preceding Tuesday suffering from a nervous breakdown with complications. Before this time the condition of her health, while giving those in her family some concern, had not been considered serious. For this reason news of Mrs. Preston’s death at three o’clock Sunday afternoon came as a distinct shock to the many who knew and loved her.

Services for the deceased were conducted from the Worthington Church Tuesday afternoon under the direction of Mr. S. C. Welch and with the Rev. A. R. Weed, of Winterset, officiating. Burial was at the Penn Center Cemetery.

Mrs. Preston is survived by her husband and a nine year old daughter, Loraine. The father, two brothers and a sister also mourn the passing of this homemaker, whose loss can never be replaced.

The following brief obituary was read:

Lucia Ann Walker, daughter of Hattie E. and Benson Walker, was born at Mazon, Illinois, February 20, 1888 and departed this life at her home near Earlham, Iowa, October 1, 1933, age 45 years, 7 months and 11 days.

On January 1, 1910 she was married to Leslie M. Preston. One little girl, Loraine, came to bless their home. Her mother preceded her in death in 1921.

To mourn her loss, she leaves her husband and little daughter, her father, two brothers, Maurice and Russell Walker, both of Mazon, Ill.; and one sister, Mrs. Louise Moreland of Earlham.

In her youth she gave her heart to the Master and served him as best she knew until the end.
