DEATH OF J. A. SIMMONS

Joshua A. Simmons, long time resident of Madison county, who has been seriously ill for several months, died at his home in the northeast part of Winterset, Saturday, July 29th. He was 78 years of age and was ill all last winter. He has been paralyzed the past few weeks.

Mr. Simmons was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Simmons. He was born near Xenia, Ohio, May 6, 1860 and came to Iowa when a boy. On January 8, 1885, he was married to Miss Beatrice Mease. They were the parents of six children; Mrs. Ola Porter, Des Moines; George of Peru, Mrs. Clara Ralson, Miss Bessie Simmons of Des Moines, Horatio at home and Mrs. Lora Hope of Winterset. The Simmons family resided for a long time in the Elm Grove neighborhood. Eight years ago they came to Winterset and have since made this place their home.

The deceased united with the Ebenezer Methodist church shortly after they were married. Later he transferred his membership to Peru and then to Winterset.

In addition to his wife and six children, Mr. Simmons leaves his three brothers, Ora of Peru, Edwin and Edmond in Kansas and fourteen grandchildren.

The Rev. A. R. Wood, pastor of the West Star church conducted his funeral services at the Methodist church Monday afternoon, July 31st at 2 o'clock and burial was in the Peru cemetery.
