Mrs. Anna Applegate, aged resident of Madison county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed Chase Tuesday evening, January 30th about 8 o’clock. Mrs. Applegate, who was the former Miss Anna Thomson, was 87 years of age. She had been ill for the past two years.
The Rev. W. C. Porter will conduct her funeral services, which are to be held at the Pitzer church Friday morning, February 2, at 11 o’clock.
Mrs. Applegate leaves her daughter, Mrs. Chase, and a sister, Mrs. Jennie McCorkle of Sioux Center, Kansas. Her husband and their four sons have preceded her in death.

Mrs. Annie Thomson Applegate, pioneer Madison county woman died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed Chase, on January 30th. She was 84 years old.
Mrs. Applegate was born in Grenick,Scotland, July 21, 1849, the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth McRoberts Thomson. She came with her parents to America in 1856, settling at Biggsville, Illinois. In 1867 the family came to Madison county.
On October 7, 1869, she was married to Andrew Applegate. They moved to Earlham in 1897 and to Dexter two years later. He died in 1917 and she remained in her Dexter home until four years ago.
Immediate survivors of the deceased are a sister, Mrs. Jennie McCorkle of Smith Center, Kansas and the daughter, Mrs. Chase.
Mrs. Applegate was one of the youngest members at the organization of the Union United Presbyterian church in 1868. She was a member of the Dexter U. P. church until its dissolution when she united with the Presbyterian church there.
Funeral services were held at the Pitzer church on February 2nd. Burial was made in the Stringtown cemetery.
