HANNAH EUNICE DIGGS

Hannah Eunice Diggs, daughter of Joseph C. and Abigail Peacock Diggs, was born on November 30, 1864 at Winchester, Indiana, and passed from this life on October 9, 1963 at the advanced age of 98 years, 10 months and 9 days.

At the age of five years she came to Iowa by covered wagon with her parents and four brothers. They located on a farm two miles east of Earlham, where they lived for many years.

Hannah attended the country school near their home, later going to the Stuart Normal School where she prepared for teaching. She then taught a few terms.

She was a birthright member of the Society of Friends, and joined Earlham Friends in 1871, transferring her membership from Poplar Run Meeting in Indiana.

Hers was a busy life, much of it spent in helping care for those of her family-father, mother and her four brothers, Elwood, Elisha, and twins, William and Wilson, all of whom preceded her in death.

Hannah loved her friends and her church where she attended regularly and was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class, the Women's Missionary Society, and the WCTU. She was a thoughtful person, a good neighbor and enjoyed having friends in her home. The community prayer meeting group often met in her Earlham home.

Surviving relatives include a niece, Gelene Linderman of Sacramento, California; Mrs. Gelene Linderman's two sons, Robert Stanley Shaw of Tucson, Arizona, and Theodore Clark Shaw of Bellflower, California; the Wayne Thomas family of Earlham; the Earl R. Sifert family of Lorenzo, Texas; and the Loyal Thomas family of Escondido, California.

The funeral service was held in the Earlham Friends church on Saturday, October 12, at 2 o'clock. The pastor, L. Willard Reynolds was in charge. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery. Roy E. Evans was the funeral director.
