MARION O. COMPTON

Marion O. Compton was born May 21, 1901 in Earlham, Iowa, the oldest child and only son of Elizabeth and Edmond Compton. He passed away in his sleep at Madison County Memorial Hospital in the early morning hours Thursday, November 9, 1978.

Marion was a life long resident of the Earlham community, having attended Earlham schools, graduating from high school in 1919.

On December 12, 1923, Marion was united in marriage to Emma Thomsen. In 1973, they were privileged to share their 50th wedding anniversary with their many friends, neighbors and relatives.

Survivors include his wife, Emma; a daughter, Norma Jean Moreland, of Whittier, California; a son, William (Bill) of Kalamazoo, Michigan. He also leaves five grandchildren and three sisters, Esther of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Alice of Rockford, Illinois and Mildred DeLay of Perry.

As a young man, Marion was a member of the Earlham Friends Church and in 1926 he and Emma joined the membership of the Earlham Presbyterian Church. For many years Marion gave his faithful service to his church and his community.
