Leo Earl Mapes, son of Charles and Amanda (Hutchison) Mapes was born in Madison county on February 3, 1893 and passed away March 14, 1977 at Adel Acres. Leo attended country school in Madison county, then the Earlham Academy.
On February 16, 1916, he was united in marriage to Bessie E. Veverka. To this union three children were born: Donald of Earlham, Franklyn of Urbandale and Myrna DeWall of Laurens.
Leo is a member of the Friends church in Earlham. He farmed in Madison and Dallas counties until retirement and had a special understanding of his livestock and crops.
Leo was a good friend and neighbor which you could always depend on in time of need. He was a kind, devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Those surviving are his wife, Bessie, three children, nine grandchildren, two sisters-Ethel Long of Urbandale and Mildred Rohrer of Des Moines; two brothers-Clarence of Adel and Sumner of Winterset, plus many nieces and nephews. Leo will be missed by them and many friends in and around Earlham.
