LEROY (TOBY) COZAD

Leroy (Toby) Cozad was born January 29, 1934 in Coin, Iowa. He passed away at the Dexter hospital November 11, about 5:00 p.m. 1968. (Burial in Earlham Cemetery)

He was the son of Earl and Nettie Cozad of Earlham and he made his home with them. He was handicapped in some ways but was able to do a lot of things for himself. However, his father and mother lavished their undying love and devotion on him and gave him themselves without reservation. God alone knows of the love and care piled mountain high around Toby.

Toby was always congenial and jolly. He was thoughtful for his mother and father and others. He affectionately called his mother "Mom" and the last day before he fell asleep he put out his hand and called her "Mom" several times and said, "Hi, Dad."

He always thanked the nurses and anyone who did anything for him. I well recall being in the home and offering prayer and he would thank me and say "Amen.: He always called me "The Preacher."

Toby had one thing all of us need-the virtue of appreciation. He never built any skyscrapers, broke through the sound barrier, left a monument for some heroic deed, discovered some new medical cure or blazed a trail in this world. No, Toby built a little bridge from himself to God and left us an example of how even one of God's little people can leave the world a little better and gain God's approval.

Toby's brother, Earl Jr., preceded him in death, December 11, 1967; his other brother Wayne lives in Des Moines. Other relatives and friends in Earlham are left behind to remember him and await their time to join him. Thank God for Toby.
