GERRY M. HOUGHAM

Gerry M. Hougham, one of six children of Benjamin and Mary Adams Hougham, was born July 23, 1892 in Marion County, Iowa. His life ended October 18, 1968 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

Gerry came to Dallas County when he was only two years of age. He lived here the rest of his life with the exception of about 35 years when he made his home in Des Moines.

He was married June 28, 1919 to Miss Helen Stanley. They were the parents of three children.

In 1932, Gerry was appointed Postmaster of the Fort Des Moines Post Office. He held that post until his retirement in 1955. He was a veteran of World War I. He served overseas with the Army, and was wounded in action.

He was a member of the Adel Christian Church; of the Adel Lodge No. 80 A.F. & A.M., and had served eight years as President of the National League of District Postmasters.

In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by his three children: Howard of DeSoto, Kansas; Betty Jerome of Adel; and Martha Evans of Des Moines; his sister, Mae Hutton of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Gerry will be remembered as a man of quiet disposition who enjoyed being out of doors, fishing and being with his family and friends.
