January 1968John Harvey Williamson, son of Joseph and Mary Adams Williamson, was born on January 24, 1878 and departed this life January 4, 1968 at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 4 days. He was born and lived his entire life on the farm, a mile north of Earlham (with the exception of six years in Earlham where he had a barber shop). He received his education in the Dallas country school and the Earlham Academy.
His two sisters, Josephine Williamson Bertholf and Wilda Williamson Hibbs preceded him in death. Another little brother died in infancy.
On November 11, 1903, he was united in marriage to Estella Caroline Stanley. They enjoyed 61 years of married life together.
He was a man with several hobbies, among which was that of photography. He could see the beauty of nature in clouds and sunsets. For years, when he was able, he watched each sunset and often took the picture in color. Many times his pictures would appear in the Des Moines Register. In his later years, he took up oil painting and enjoyed this for as long as his eyes would permit.
He leaves to mourn his passing three children: Mrs. Philip Bales of Earlham, Stanley Williamson of Earlham and Mrs. Harold Clarkson of Winterset. He leaves also seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
(Burial in the Earlham Cemetery)
