FIRST HIGHWAY DEATH OF 1971

Bruce A. Moore of near Earlham died Sunday, May 23 at Memorial hospital in Winterset, where he had been taken Wednesday of last week for treatment of injuries received in an automobile collision south of Earlham.

His death is officially listed as a highway fatality. It is the first such fatality for 1971 in Madison County.

The accident occurred about 4 p.m. last Wednesday on the county paved road about six miles south of Earlham. A car driven by Moore was pulling across the paved road from an intersecting road, when a car driven by Mrs. Rose E. Danley, 45, of Earlham, northbound, struck the Moore car broadside. The two drivers and Mrs. Moore, who was riding with her husband, were taken to Memorial hospital in Winterset. Mrs. Moore was treated for minor cuts and bruises and released. Mrs. Danley was released from the hospital Saturday.

Bruce A. Moore was 76 years of age at his death. He was a life-time resident of Madison county, and during most of his life had engaged in farming in Penn township. He was born Dec. 11, 1894, a son of Asa and Isabell McQuie Moore. On Oct. 9, 1913, he was married to Lois A. Sulgrove. They were parents of a son, Wilbur L. Moore, and a daughter, now Mrs. Margaret J. Thrailkill. The wife and mother died in 1957.

In 1961 he was married to Dorothy May Cash, who survives him.

In addition to his wife and children, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Clara Mapes; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was a member of the Early Chapel Christian Church where funeral services were held this Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. William Dilsaver. Burial was made in the Penn Center Cemetery.

Bruce Angus Moore, eldest son of Asa and Isabell McQuie Moore, was born December 11, 1894 and passed away May 23, 1971 at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 12 days. During his lifetime, he resided in Madison county.

On October 9, 1913, he was united in marriage with Lois Alma Sulgrove. To this union were born two children – Wilbur L. and Margaret Jean Thrailkill. Lois preceded him in death in 1957.

On March 16, 1961, he was united in marriage with Dorothy May Cash.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Dorothy, his children, and one sister, Clara Mapes; also eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

His church membership was with the Early Chapel church.

Services were held Tuesday, May 25, at the Early Chapel Christian church.
