Services for Bertha Verwers, 96, Winterset, who died July 19 at the Winterset Care Center South where she resided, were held Saturday, July 23, at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Turner officiating. Burial was at the Lorimor Cemetery.

Born in Marion County on Dec. 5, 1891, she was the daughter of George and Manerva Harriett Carpenter. A homemaker, she had lived in Winterset the past five years, coming from Lorimor. She had also lived in the Peru and Barney areas.

She married John Verwers on Feb. 12, 1911 at Fifield, Iowa and was a member of the First Church of God at Lorimor and a member of the Women's Missionary Society and other neighbor clubs.

Survivors include daughters, Verna Robinett and husband Harold and Vera Smith and husband Dale all of Winterset; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and eight sisters.
