Death of Samuel Blosser

Samuel Blosser, a pioneer resident of Crawford township, died at the Winterset hospital, last Thursday night, December 4th, at the age of 79 years. Mr. Blosser had been in poor health for some time, and was brought to the Winterset hospital, the Sunday preceeding his death.

Mr. Blosser came to this county, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Blosser, when he was a boy seven years of age. They located on a farm east of Patterson, and Samuel Blosser lived continuously on this farm until twelve years ago, when he and his wife, moved to Patterson, because of his failing health.

The first seven years of Mr. Blosser’s life were spent in Bremen, Ohio. He was born in this town, December 22, 1850. His marriage to Miss Alias Jane Gillogly was an event of October 30th, 1873. They were the parents of seven children, all of whom survive him, except a son, Albert who died in 1917. He leaves in addition to Mrs. Blosser, four daughters, Mrs. Grace Bird of Des Moines, Mrs. Neil Pace of Patterson, Mrs. Iva Guilliams and Mrs. Beulah Grout of Winterset, and two sons, Frank and Noah Blosser of Patterson. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

The Rev. Mr. Kopfer, pastor of the Patterson Methodist church conducted the funeral services at the church, Saturday afternoon, December 6th, at 2:30 o’clock, and burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery. More details of his life may be found in the mortuary column.

MORTUARY - Samuel Blosser

Samuel Blosser, son of George and Dorcas Hufford Blosser was born December 22nd, 1850 at Brenen, Ohio, and passed away at the Winterset hospital December 4th, 1930, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 4 days.

He came with his parents to Madison county, Iowa when a boy of 7 years of age and owns and lived continuously on the farm where they first settled until twelve years ago, due to failing health they left the farm and moved to town.

He is the last of a family of five. He was married to Alia Jane Gillogly October 30th, 1873. Seven children came to bless this union, all of which are living except Albert, who passed away October 24th, 1917.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and six children, Mrs. Grace Bird of Des Moines, Mrs. Neil Nace, Frank and Noah of Patterson, Mrs. Beulah Grout and Mrs. Iva Guilliams of Winterset, ten grand children, one great grandchild, a number of relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Blosser was a member of the Methodist church at Patterson, a man of sterling character and a staunch supporter of every good cause.

He has been a member for forty years of the Masonic Model Lodge Number 315, St. Charles. He was held in the highest esteem and will be greatly missed in the community in which he lived.
