Page 8Iola Brooker Stout was born July 29, 1907, near Van Meter, and passed away on Sunday, March 30, 1930, about 5:30 a.m., at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines.
She was the eldest daughter of Mrs. Brooker, who is well known in this community, but now of Linden. Iola attended school for some three years at Patterson, but graduated from the high school at Redding, in 1928.
On January 31, 1930, she was united in marriage to Vernon Stout of Des Moines, where she had made her home for the past two months. It is thought that her fatal sickness began with a chill in the early part of the winter and in spite of medical skill and tender care she grew weaker unto the end.
She was a member of the Methodist church at Patterson, being active in the Epworth League and Young People’s circles. She won a large place into the affections of many hearts and homes. The first cloud to darken her sunny youth came last June, when her father was removed by death, but through it all she was cheerful.
She will be missed by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Long, of Des Moines, and by her devoted, but lonely mother, and by Russell, Helen, Norma, Homer, and Ruth, her brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held at Fairview church south of De Soto, on Tuesday afternoon, April 1st, the services being conducted by Rev. J. H. Nightingale. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
