Death of J. J. DeVault

The sudden death of J. J. DeVault on Monday was a great shock to his relatives and friends. He had not been feeling well, because of neuralgia and decided to come to Winterset to consult his physician. Not finding the doctor in his office, he went to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ralph Crouse to rest for awhile. Nothing alarming was noted by the doctor, when he called later but death came quietly at seven o'clock.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Geo. D. Rogers with interment in Winterset cemetery.

Mr. DeVault was the son of Charles DeVault, a pioneer of Johnson county, and received his early education in that county. Since 1882, with the exception of three years, he has lived in Jackson township, farming and stock raising.

Mrs. DeVault, one daughter, Mrs. Crouse; also two sons, Ralph and Grover survive him. To the family is extended the sympathy of a community which greatly esteemed this high type of citizenship exemplified in the life of Mr. DeVault.
