MORTUARY - Mrs. Arthur Gordon

Sarah Katherine Lease, only child of Willard and Alzina Lease, was born in Madison County, Iowa Sept. 22, 1881. At the age of twelve years she united with the Baptist church of this place during the pastorate of Rev. Berry. In later years, she with her children, attended the Church of Christ, where she kept her children in regular attendance at Sunday school.

March 10, 1897, she was married to James Arthur Gordon. To this union were born five children, one, Georgia Audrey, dying in infancy; and Willard A., Mildred A., Margaret N., and George R., together with two grandchildren live to honor her memory.

She was a member of the Maccabee Lodge of which she served as Record Keeper almost ten years. She was also a member of the Comfort Club, ever willing to assist in anything to help the boys, corresponding with a number while in France, and sending dainties in numerous quantities. Not only was she interested in the welfare of her own boy, but all the home boys.

Her death was unexpected, being a shock to the whole community. She passed away April 15, 1920 at the early age of 38 years, 5 months and 23 days.

She was a kind and loving mother bearing her burdens with a saintly smile, and a patient soul that makes her now appear as a heavenly angel. Besides her children, she leaves her dear old mother, a devoted husband, and a host of friends who will greatly miss her.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ballanger, assisted by Rev. Rogers, from the home Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, and interment was made in the Rock City cemetery.
