January 1930OBITUARY
Alonzo P. Maulsby was born in Indiana, May 2, 1851 and passed away January 4, 1930, aged 78 years, 8 months and 2 days.
At the age of 12 he came with his parents to Iowa, locating near Dexter, Iowa.
August 12, 1876, he was united in marriage to Martha Adeline Williams. To this union, six children were born, four girls and two boys. All are living and attended the funeral services, except a son, Charles, who passed away four years ago.
About twenty-five years ago, Brother Maulsby moved with his family to Valley Junction where he lived to the time of his death, with the exception of five years living in Des Moines.
Brother Maulsby was a good man, a good citizen and neighbor, a kind husband, a loving father and a faithful friend.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, Valley Lodge No. 625, and carried out in his every day life the fundamental principles of that Order of “Friendship, Love and Truth.” He believed in and practiced that friendship which like Charity, vaunteth not itself, but pursues the even tenor of its way, unaffrighted by ill report, loyal in adversity, the shining jewel of happy days.
He was a member of the Friends church; and while he was not loud in his profession, he lived a quiet clean life; and on his deathbed, bade his family and friends, good bye, saying that he wanted to go home to be with Jesus and departed relatives and friends.
His wife preceded him in death May 18, 1918.
He leaves to mourn his death, four daughters and one son: Mrs. E. L. Brown, of Des Moines, E. E. Maulsby, of Earlham; Mrs. R. O. Sheets, of Valley Junction; Mrs. C. W. Hunt, of Knoxville; Mrs. C. M. Shepherd, of Des Moines; and fourteen grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
