Services for Elsie Gladys Simmons, 95, Winterset, who died Sept. 13 at the Bethesda Care Center where she resided, were held Friday, Sept. 16 at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Knoll and Rev. Leonard Leslie officiating. Burial was at the Peru Cemetery.
Born in Madison County on Feb. 16, 1893, she was the daughter of Mactier "Mack" and Alice Foster Robinson. She married "John" Irvin Simmons on Nov. 5, 1922 in Winterset.
Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker and in her early years a nurse. A lifetime resident of Madison County, she was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, a graduate of a nursing school in Nevada, Iowa, and a member of the Dorcas Society and the World War I Veterans Auxiliary.
Survivors include a daughter, Miriam Howell and husband Nelson of Winterset; a sister, Catherine Hiatt and husband Clifton of Canon City, Colo.; a grandson David Howell and wife Robin; and a great-grandson, Chris Howell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and three sisters.
