Death of Rudolph Haxton

Earlham, Special, December 23 –

The funeral of Rudolph Haxton was held at the Presbyterian church Friday afternoon at two o’clock. Mr. Haxton was born in Illinois but moved with his parents to Iowa, near Earlham, in 1875. Later he moved to Oklahoma where he passed away at the age of 71 years. His wife and six children survive him.

Rev. Simpson preached his sermon. The music was furnished by a mixed quartette, and burial was in the Earlham cemetery.

OBITUARY

Rudolph Haxton, son of Perry and Emily Haxton was born February 10, 1859 in Mercer County, Ill., and died at his home in Gotebo, Okla., December 14, 1930, his age being 71 years, 10 months and 26 days.

In 1875 he moved with his parents to Earlham, Iowa; in which he lived until he with his family moved to Missouri and later to Oklahoma where he lived until the time of his death.

He was married to Etna Bennett in September, 1884. To this union six children were born, four girls …. boys all of whom are living, …. but one son were present at the funeral. Their names are as follows: Mrs. Alta M. Larkin, Guthrie Center, Iowa; Mrs. Minnie B. Poole, Alden, Iowa; Mrs. Gertie Compton, Guthrie Center, Iowa; Mrs. Grace Elrod, Gotebo, Okla.

He leaves to mourn his loss besides his children his wife Mrs. Etna Haxton, two brothers and two sisters, Charles Haxton, Gotebo, Okla.; Ollie Haxton, Dexter, Iowa; Mrs. Julia Bowman, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. C. O. Clements, Earlham. Twenty-one grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and many relatives and friends. Mr. Haxton was a devoted husband and loving father in all of his business relationships of life was honest and up right. He was a strict observer of the golden rule, and by its practical application won the confidence and friendship of all, thus exemplifying the language of scripture that “a good name is to be chosen rather than great riches.”

He rests from his labors and his works will follow him.

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church, and conducted by A. N. Simpson minister of the Church of Christ, Earlham, Iowa.

Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
