D. Ross Simmerman, Abbeville, La.

D. Ross Simmerman, 67, son of Felix and Olive Simmerman was born November 16, 1920 in Madison County. He died July 28, 1988 at his home in Abbeville, Louisiana. He received his education in the Madison County schools and graduated from Peru High School.

He was a member of the Madison Chapel Church, later transferring his membership to Baptist Church in Abbeville. He was also Post Master of Fern Lodge #558 of Lorimor, where he was a member for 46 years.

On July 18, 1945, he was married to Nora Mae Patton and they were parents of four children. He farmed In Madison and Union counties.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Randy Ross, five brothers and one sister. Surviving are his wife, Nora Mae, daughters, Sandra Sue Winkler, Gurnee, Illinois, Patricia Anne Dyer, Bryson, Texas; and son Scottie Dean at home; four grandchildren, Debra and Michael Winkler, Mary Mienechka Martinez and Adam Ross Dyer; sisters, Vada Denly, Osceola, Neita Denly, Galesburg, Ill. and Dora Denly, Osceola; brothers, Maynard of Hysham, Montana and Gerald of Elyria, Ohio.

Funeral services were July 31 at the Baptist Church with burial in the Masonic Cemetery in Abbeville, Louisiana.
