Arthur E. Silliman, former Madison county resident, died at the hospital in Redwood City, California, Tuesday, January 6th, after an extended illness, at the age of 68 years. He was a son of Charles and Mary Silliman and was born on a farm near Peru, December 6, 1884 one of a family of 8 children.
He was married in September 1906 to Grace E. Tomlinson, and they lived in this county until in 1916, when they moved to North Dakota and lived on a farm near York. They were the parents of nine children. The mother died in 1921. In 1945, he moved to Park River, North Dakota, where he entered the implement business with his son, Fred. Later, when he became ill, he went to California to be with his son, Claude.
Survivors included his children: Charles and William of York, North Dakota, Mrs. Howard McDonald of Towner, N. Dak.; Fred of Park River, N. Dak.; Mrs. Bruce Follman of Seattle, Wash.; Clair, Claude and Harold Silliman of Redwood City, Calif.; and Mrs. Walter Caudill of St. Charles. He also leaves two brothers and three sisters: W. J. Silliman of Paris, Arkansas, Lonnie Silliman of Centerville, Mrs. Ree Schoenenberger of Humboldt, Minnesota, Mrs. S. S. Clifton and Mrs. A. E. Emerson of Winterset. He also leaves 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was a member of the Methodist church and the Rev. Glenn Parrott conducted his funeral services at the Winterset Methodist church, Sunday afternoon, Jan. 11th at 2 o'clock and burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
