Mrs. Effie Shutt Dies at 95 Years

Mrs. Effie J. Shutt, a long-time resident of the St. Charles community, died Saturday, May 27, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. She was 95 years of age.

Mrs. Shutt was the former Effie Jane Strawn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Strawn. She was born at New Virginia, Oct. 10, 1876. She was married to David H. Shutt on Feb. 27, 1898. They were parents of six children, three of whom survive.

For the last 11 years she had lived in Indianola. She was affiliated with the Baptist church.

She leaves two sons, Clee Shutt of Sigourney and Glen Shutt of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Garnette of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held this Wednesday morning from the Kale Funeral home, with the Rev. Kermit Williams of Osceola officiating. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Effie Shutt Dies Saturday

Funeral services for Effie Jane Shutt will be held Wednesday, May 31 from the Kale Funeral Home in Truro. The 10 a.m. services were conducted by the Rev. Kermit Williams of Osceola. She died Saturday, May 27 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

Effie Jane Shutt was born October 10, 1876, daughter of Levi Strawn. She was educated in Warren County and lived near St. Charles until she moved to Indianola 11 years ago. She was affiliated with the Ohio Baptist Church February 27, 1898 she was united in marriage to David Henry Shutt. Six children were born to this union.

Surviving relatives include: two sons and one daughter, Clee and wife, Lyda of Sigourney; Glenn and wife, Iva of Phoenix; daughter Garnetta of Los Angeles; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, David; sons, Vern; and Ralph; daughter, Edith; and one brother; and two sisters.
