Simeon Warrington Henkle, son of George and Polly Henkle, was born in Washington county, Iowa, August 23, 1847, and died October 14, 1930, aged 83 years, 1 month and 21 days. On July 29, 1869, he was united in marriage to Melissa A. Shipman, of South English, Iowa, who preceded him in death five years ago, on April 29, 1925.

Seven children were born to this union, four daughters and three sons. One baby daughter, Genevera, died at the age of 10 months. The living children are: B. L. and George, of Paonia, Colorado; S. W. Jr., of Earlham; Mrs. Edith Fritz, of Menlo; Mrs. Vernie Laidley, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Maud Herrell, of Omaha, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Henkle joined the Methodist church at Fairview in the year 1892. This membership was later transferred to Worthington. He was a member of the Masonic order from early manhood. Mr. and Mrs. Henkle came from South English about 1873, to Winterset, later moving to Earlham, and lived practically all their married life in Madison county, with the exception of a few years, when they lived in Dexter.

Rev. A. P. Keast, of Winterset, and Rev. A. R. Weed, of West Star, conducted the funeral services at 2 o’clock, at the Earlham Methodist church, Thursday, October 16th.

At the conclusion of the sermon, the Masonic brothers had charge of the services, which were conducted by Mr. Nolte, of Stuart. Six grandsons acted as pall bearers: Charles, Fred and Leroy Fritz, of Menlo; Harry and John Henkle, of De Soto, and Max Laidley, of Des Moines.
