Page 1Death of Noah Shearer
Noah Shearer, a long time resident of Madison county, died at his home, northwest of St. Charles, Friday, August 15th, at the age of 77 years. For thirty years the Shearers made their home on a farm south of Winterset, but in 1900 they moved to the St. Charles farm where they had since resided.
Mr. Shearer had been blind for three years and had been in poor health for the past two years. The deceased was a son of John and Mary Shearer, and was born in Indiana. He was married to Miss Jenettle Alley in 1874, and they were the parents of six children, all of whom survive, except Fred. He leaves his children, Francis Marion and John Harrison, both of Winterset; Minnie Jackson, of Knoxville; Leola Jackson, of Ottumwa, and Walter, of Colfax.
Funeral services for Mr. Shearer were conducted at Blair Chapel, Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, by the Rev. F. G. Barnes, of St. Charles, and burial was made in the Blair Chapel cemetery.

Noah, son of John and Mary Shearer, was born December 10, 1852, in Indiana, and died at his home northwest of St. Charles, on August 15, 1930. At the time of his passing, his age was 77 years, 3 months and 5 days.
When a small child he moved with his parents to Illinois. When he was sixteen years of age he came with his parents to Iowa. They located south of Winterset, where they lived for thirty years. In the year 1900 he moved to his present farm, where he had since resided.
In 1874, Mr. Shearer was married to Miss Jenettie Alley. To this union six children were born: Francis Marion, John Harrison, Minnie, Leola, Walter and Fred. Fred preceded his father in death.
Mr. Shearer was a member of the Masonic Order, holding his membership at St. Charles. He had been unable to attend for several years.
There are left to mourn his loss, his children, Francis Marion and John Harrison, both of Winterset; Minnie Jackson, of Knoxville; Leola Jackson, of Ottumwa, and Walter, of Colfax; one sister, Mrs. John Macomber, of Chadron, Nebraska; twenty-two grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
He had been blind for about three years, and in poor health for two years. He was patient and uncomplaining in all his suffering. He was a good husband and father.
Funeral services were held at Blair Chapel, Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, and were conducted by the Rev. F. G. Barnes. Interment was in the cemetery near by.
