Elizabeth Shambaugh, 89, died of cancer March 16, 2001 at Winterset Care Center North.
No services are planned. The body was donated to Des Moines University (University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences).
Elizabeth Shambaugh was born May 13, 1911, in Sioux City to Robert Thomas and Maude Ethel (Ruble) Chipperfield. An honors graduate of Iowa State College, she also received her M.S. from the University of Iowa. Elizabeth had taught school in Milford, Van Meter and Norwalk, retiring in 1971. She also was the recipient of Iowa's Outstanding Teacher Award. She had been a member of P.E.O. and Progressive Study Club and had been a long-term president of the Winterset PTA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and three sisters.
She is survived by two sons, James Shambaugh and Mike Shambaugh; and four grandchildren.
