Leland Shade Services Monday

Funeral services for Leland Murray Shade of Seymour formerly of Madison County, were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 29, at Collins Funeral Home. Burial was at Jackson Cemetery at Pitzer with Rev. Keith Striley of Afton officiating.

Mr. Shade died Friday, October 26, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 81.

Born on August 4, 1898 in Boone County, he was the son of Calvin Augusta and Angeline Abraham Shade. A resident for many years in Warren and Madison Counties, Mr. Shade was a farmer until his retirement in 1971.

Surviving are a son, Murray Leland Shade of Creston; a daughter, Goldie Brown of Seymour; a stepdaughter, Betty Thomas of Martiney, Ga.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a brother, Calvin Shade of Corydon.

He was preceded in death by both his first and second wives, his parents, a brother and three sisters.
