Alfred Seitz

Alfred Seitz had been a resident of Winterset for many years, during the time he operated a tavern in this community. About a year ago, he sold the business here.

Mr. Seitz was 66 years of age at his death. Surviving are a twin brother, Albert Seitz of Stockton, Calif.; another brother, Fred Seitz of Madrid; and two sisters, Mrs. Effie Reed of Madrid and Mrs. Gertie Cooper of Woodward.

Obituaries - Alfred Seitz

Alfred Seitz, son of Arthur and Mary L. Seitz, was born west of Boone, Ia. Jan. 11, 1897, moving to Madrid at the age of 8, where he grew to manhood.

Alfred served with the Armed Forces of his country in both World War I and II. He was a charter member of the LeMans Post of the American Legion in Madrid, later transferring his membership to the post at Winterset.

On April 9, 1932, he was married to Margaret Esther Anderson, and for several years they had a restaurant in Madrid. The past seven years they have lived in Winterset, where they retired a year ago.

Death came to both Alfred and Margaret at 2 o’clock last Thursday morning when the Rocket mail train hit the car in which they were riding, after visiting some friends near Booneville.

Alfred is survived by his twin brother, Albert, of Stockton, Calif., another brother, Fred, of Madrid, and two sisters: Mrs. Effie Reed of Madrid , and Mrs. Gertie Cooper of Woodward, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Sundberg’s Funeral Home with Rev. Homer F. Perry, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ed Gilbert who sand “Crossing the Bar” and “The Lord’s Prayer”.

Burial was made at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Casket bearers were Jack Rees, Fred Lackey, Charles Barrow, Russell Comstock, James Lewis, And Alex Cumming.
