J. A. Hale, a former Winterset resident, died Wednesday, April 16, in a Muscatine Nursing home. He had been in failing health for more than two years, and bedfast since Aug. 1.
Mr. Hale was 90 years of age at his death. He was born near Marion, Ind. on Jan. 13, 1862.
Surviving are his wife, the former Nina Smith; two sons, Lester Hale and Dr. Everett E. Hale; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Burial was made at West Liberty.

WEST LIBERTY – James Allen Hale, 90, died at 9 a.m. Monday at the Gregg Nursing home in Muscatine following a lingering illness.
He was born January 13, 1862, in Marion, Ind., the son of Abraham and Sarah Hale and was married March 13, 1901 to Nina Smith of Winterset.
The couple had resided here the last 20 years previously having farmed in McLean county, Illinois.
Mr. Hale was a member of the Methodist church and Mt Calvary Masonic lodge.
Surviving are the widow, two sons, Dr. Everett E. Hale of West Liberty, and Lester Hale of Denver, Colo. seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, two sisters, a brother, and his parents.
The remains are at the Snider Funeral home here. Funeral arrangements have not been completed as yet.

Mrs. Eunice Gillespie, LaFontaine, and Jack Hale, Somerset, have been notified of the death of their uncle, James A. Hale, 90, West Liberty, Ia. He was the son of Catherine (Miller) Hale.
The decedent formerly live near LaFontaine and in Marion, but had lived in Iowa for 50 years.
Survivors are the widow, Nina; two sons, Dr. E. E. Hale, West Liberty, Ia., Lester, Denver, Col.; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
