BESSIE SCHWANER DIES AT 85 YEARS

Had Been Patient More Than Six Years at Memorial Hospital

Mrs. Bessie Schwaner, member of one of Winterset's prominent old families, died Sunday, March 31 at Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset, where she had been a patient for more than six years. She had entered the hospital in August 1950 and had been a patient there since that time. She was 85 years of age.

Mrs. Schwaner was a life-long resident of Winterset. She was the former Bessie Evalin Shannon, daughter of Joseph R. and Rachel Guiberson Shannon and was born here July 29, 1871.

She was married to John E. Schwaner of Winterset on Nov. 14, 1899. His death occurred in 1943.

She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian church of Winterset and of several social groups.

Nearest surviving relative of Mrs. Schwaner is a sister, Mrs. Kittie Giffen of Winterset.

Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. George DeF. Fisher, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
