Rev. Maurice John Schulte, Winterset

Services for the Rev. Maurice John Schulte, 72, Winterset, who died Oct. 14 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winterset Monday morning, Oct. 17. Graveside services were held Monday afternoon at Beaver Catholic Cemetery in Granger.

Rev. Schulte had been pastor at St. Joseph's here for a number of years. A large number of Catholic priests from around Iowa attended the services.

Rev. Schulte had been an assistant pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Iowa and at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa.

He was a chaplain in the Navy during World War II and he had been a chaplain at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines. He also assisted at the St. Peter's and St. Ambrose Cathedral parishes in Des Moines.

He had been the pastor at St. Boniface in Waukee, St. John's in Adel, St. Patricks in Perry and at St. Pius in Des Moines.

Born in Granger, Rev. Schulte was survived by three brothers, the Rev. Joseph Schulte of West Des Moines, George W. Schulte of Clinton, Mo., and Clement H. Schulte of Ankeny; sisters, Sister Mary Maurice Schulte of Cedar Rapids, and Frances Michael and Theresa Schulte, both of Des Moines.
