A funeral service was held Wednesday, June 16 at Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter for Charles A. Scar, a long-time resident of Dexter who died June 13 at Stuart Community Care Center. He was 89 years old.
Born Feb. 14, 1893 in Madison County, he was the son of Edward and Elizabeth Fett Scar. He spent his boyhood on the family farm, attending country school and graduating from Earlham Academy in 1913.
On Jan. 17, 1917 he married Katie Schafer. The two spent their lives farming in Madison county, moving to Dexter in 1949. Mrs. Scar died in 1976.
Mr. Scar was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Survivors include a son, Alvin Scar of rural Dexter; a daughter, Lenore Martens of rural Dexter; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pastor Norman Luecht officiated at the funeral service. Burial was in Dexter Cemetery.

Thursday, July 1, 1982Charles Scar, the son of Edward and Elizabeth Fett Scar, was born February 14, 1893 in Madison County, Iowa. He passed away at the Stuart Community Care Center on June 13, 1982.
Charlie spent his boyhood on the family farm in Madison County. He attended country school and graduated from the Earlham Academy in 1913.
On January 17, 1917 he was united in marriage to Katie Schafer at the home of her parents. They spent their life together farming in Madison County. In 1949 they moved to Dexter. Katie passed away in December, 1976.
Charlie was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter. He was always active in the church while his health permitted.
Survivors include his son, Alvin Scar of rural Dexter, daughter, Mrs. Lenore Martens of rural Dexter; seven grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were conducted at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter on June 16, 1982 with Pastor Norman M. Luecht officiating. Mrs. Helen Clausen provided organ music and accompanied the congregational singing. Casket bearers were Carl Jobst, Steve Martens, Norman Scar, Bob Scar, David Scar and Dennis Scar. Interment was in Dexter Cemetery.
