Dorothy T. Samuel 83, of St. Cloud, Minn., died Oct. 16, 2001 at her home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 20 at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. Steve Binsfield officiating.
Dorothy Samuel was born April 21, 1918 in New Jersey. While still living in New Jersey, she married Will Samuel. The family resided in a number of places over the years-including Winterset, where she taught high school English for several years. In Baltimore, she began a career as a news commentator. She also earned a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from John Hopkins University. After moving to St. Cloud in 1981, she was a member of the local Human Rights Commission. Dorothy also taught in the Criminal Justice Department at St. Cloud State University as an adjunct instructor. She was a frequent commentator on radio station WJON, wrote a monthy column for the St. Cloud Times and was the author of several books.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two daughters.
She is survived by a daughter, Pat Samuel of St. Cloud; a son, Bill Samuel (wife Young) of Silver Spring, Md.; and a granddaughter.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Dingmann Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids, Minn.
