Suffers Fatal Heart Attack at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines
Mrs. Lorin Sayre of Winterset died Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. She had been a patient at the hospital a few days, but was considered to be improving and was planning on returning to her home here soon when she was stricken suddenly with a heart attack.
Mrs. Sayre was 69 years of age. She was widely known, both in Winterset and St. Charles, where most of her life was spent, for her activity in community, womens' clubs and church work.
During World War II she served as a Madison county Red Cross chairman. Her club affiliations included P.E.O. Federated Women's club, Columbian club, Kensington club, and the Woman's Society for Christian service. She was a member of the United Presbyterian church at St. Charles.
Mrs. Sayre spent all but 10 years of her life as a resident of Madison county. She was the former Bessie Mabel Buchanan, and was born in Jackson township on Aug. 5, 1882. She was married to Lorin Sayre on May 10, 1905. Most of their married life was spent at St. Charles, but for the past 20 years she had lived in Winterset.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Eldon Parker of Winterset; two grandsons; four sisters, Mrs. Clyde Mills and Mrs. Beulah Anderson of St. Charles, and Mrs. Martha Dawson and Mrs. Hazel Summer of Des Moines; and two brothers, C. R. Buchanan of Truro, and C. M. Buchanan of Des Moines.
Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. this Wednesday from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Glenn Parrott, and the Rev. Samuel Picken, pastor of the Winterset United Presbyterian church. Burial is to be made in the St. Charles cemetery.
