Long article: Word was brought to Coroner Hobson last Saturday forenoon that Mrs. Martino (commonly known as Martin) and elderly woman who lived in the southwestern part of town and supported herself and her aged husband by washing, had committed suicide during the absence of the rest of the family, who had gone to view the political parade. Dr. J. V. Nelson, after examining the body, found that death was caused by hanging. (etc.)

It is said that old Mrs. Martino, who committed suicide last November rests uneasily in the grave and that her ghost has been seen lingering about the places she formerly frequented. Her husband and daughter tell weird stories of her appearances to them at different times.

Coordinator's note: Reference the first obituary, The Madisonian was published on Fridays at that time so either the date is wrong or the article is from another, unidentified newspaper. There were other newspapers published in Winterset in that era but they were not preserved. Her maiden name is not verified.
