FORMER RESIDENT OF TRURO DIES

St. Charles--Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 12 at the Fremont Funeral chapel in Fremont, Ia., for Edward W. Bender.

The son of Conrad and Louisa Bender, he was born in Ioka, Keokuk county, Ia., April 24, 1885, and died at his home in Fremont on Oct. 10, 1951, at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 16 days.

On Dec. 30, 1905 he was united in marriage to Bessie D. Smith, who survives him. To this union three children were born, two daughters, Mrs. Opal Rankin of Truro and Mrs. Neva Black of St. Charles, and a son, Waldo, of Fremont.

Most of his married life was spent in the Truro, Hedrick and Fremont communities. He was active in farming until failing health forced him to retire in 1940.

Besides his immediate family, he is survived by one granddaughter, Carolyn Black of St. Charles; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Dennis of Ottumwa; two brothers, Charles and Fred of Agency.

Officiating at the services were the Rev. J. W. Zerbe and Dr. Ernest Mathews of Fremont. Burial was made in the Cedar Township cemetery at Fremont.
