RUTH ESTHER SMITLEY, Winterset

Services for Ruth Esther Smitley, 90, a resident of the Winterset Care Center North the past several years, who died Oct. 19, 1983, at the care center, were held Saturday at Hamilton's Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial was at Ridgedale Cemetery in Johnston, with the Rev. Richard Arrowood officiating.

She was born in Mahaska County on Oct. 7, 1893, the daughter of Lemual and Mary Mathews Reeves.

Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Cappy Barns of Elm Grove, Wis., Mrs. Joan Matlock of Irving, Tex., and Mrs. Esther Snetselaar of Prairie City, 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers, a son and a daughter.
