Gladys Fern Ross, 95, of Dexter, died Oct. 23, 2002 of congestive heart failure at her home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 26 at First Presbyterian Church in Dexter with the Rev. Dr. Ray Martin officiating. Burial was at Dexter Cemetery in Dexter.

Gladys Ross was born Aug. 9, 1907 to Lester and Nellie (Fleming) Hill of Earlham. She graduated from Earlham High School in 1926. She attended Medical Laboratory Technician School in Minneapolis, Minn., and worked as a private nurse. She later worked as Chapler-Osborn Clinic Hospital in Dexter. On March 1, 1943, she married Jesse E. Ross. Together they opened Elms Cafe in Dexter, which operated for 10 years. Gladys was a member of Dexter Presbyterian Church, Progressive Guild, Presbyterian Women and the Clinic Coffee Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three brothers.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Kate Cushman of Panora and nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Home of Dexter.
